The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) was signed into law by President Clinton in May 2000 with the objective of expanding U.S. trade and investment with sub-Saharan Africa, to stimulate economic growth, to encourage economic integration, and to facilitate sub-Saharan Africa's integration into the global economy. The Act establishes the annual U.S.-sub-Saharan Africa Economic Cooperation Forum (known as the AGOA Forum) to promote a high-level dialogue on trade and investment-related issues

The deployment of broadband infrastructure and the adoption of broadband services over the last decade created economic, educational, and healthcare opportunities for every segment of our society.  The private sector invested $66 billion in 2011 and the industry invested nearly 1.2 trillion since 1996; this has resulted in more than 99.9 percent of Americans with access to some form of broadband with download speed in excess of 3 Mbps. Panelists will explore the potential for continued investment in broadband technology to enhance the needs of minority communities.  The impact of public policy on increased investment and innovation will also be discussed.

The Mission of the National Conference of Black Mayors Youth Empowerment Summit (Y.E.S.) is to create an opportunity for  Youth in public and private schools between the ages of 10 and 17 to participate in hands –on leadership development workshops, training. During the summit participants will develop a greater understanding of their impact within their communities while addressing issues impacting cities around the globe.  Participants will return home from the summit with a greater understanding of their roles and responsibilities as citizens and future leaders in their  community.​
